Hiker dies after slipping near waterfall at New Hampshire's Cannon Mountain
On Saturday, first responders found a man dead at the base of a waterfall
The man's friends claimed that while they were attempting to descend from the summit, the man slipped
The trio took a tram to the mountain's summit, where they intended to tour the summit before taking the tram back.
But they changed their mind and decided to hike down the mountain.
"Unfortunately, they were not following a hiking trail and started down what they thought was a ski trail," the department said.
One of the hikers slipped and went off the cliff as the group tried to maneuver their way down an area that was "rocky, damp, and steep with a waterfall.”
First responders hiked to the coordinates where they discovered the man's body after the hikers dialled 911.
He was then moved by the Ross Funeral Home to Littleton, NH, the department said.
