Man United spending up to $240M as Antony completes move

THE AP: Manchester, England On Thursday, the last day of the transfer season, Manchester United completed the acquisition of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax,

bringing the cost of its recent renovation to around $240 million. Antony, a 22-year-old midfielder from the Dutch division, joined United for $95 million

making him the club's second-most expensive acquisition (after Paul Pogba in 2016).

In addition to Lisandro Martinez, an Argentine centre back who costs close to $58 million, Erik ten Hag, who left Ajax to take over as United manager during the winter,

has also taken Antony with him from the Amsterdam club. Christian Eriksen, a former Ajax player, has joined on a free transfer,

and Tyrell Malacia has been acquired from Feyenoord. United added a midfielder from Brazil.

"Erik ten Hag's coaching at Ajax was ideal for me and my development. I play my best football when he is coaching, and I am inspired by what he has shared with me about his goals and intentions for Manchester.

For Antony, who complained last week in an interview with Italian writer Fabrizio Romano that the Dutch champions were not letting him depart,

United will pay Ajax an additional 5 million euros ($5 million) in future add-ons.Antony committed to a deal that runs through 2027 with a one-year option.
