Russian filmmaker resigns after officials snub Oscars

According to the mosque committee, "Such petitions and shutting of mosques will lead to public mischief and communal division, will damage mosques around the country."

A state-run news agency claimed on Tuesday that the head of Russia's Oscar nomination committee has resigned after the nation opted not to enter a movie for the 2022 ceremony.

Pavel Chukhrai, whose 1997 Oscar-nominated picture "The Thief" was partially released by TASS news agency, said that the nation's Film Academy had unilaterally decided not to nominate a film without contacting him.
