Alex Albon, an F1 driver, experiences respiratory collapse.

Following difficulties from surgery, Formula One driver Alex Albon experienced respiratory failure and had to be put on a ventilator.

Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis on Saturday morning and was ruled out of the Italian Grand Prix.

He underwent successful surgery, but was later transferred to intensive care because he needed help breathing,

 according to a statement released by his Williams team on Monday.

According to Williams, Alex experienced unexpected post-operative anaesthesia problems after surgery 

that resulted in respiratory failure, a recognised but rare condition.

He underwent a second intubation and was then sent to critical care for assistance.
